Connect vast satellite decoder to mystar – pay tv – home theatre

I suspect this has been discussed before, but I can’t find it.

We are in a remote area of NT and use satellite TV – for FTA, the VAST digital service.

Have just installed Austar with Mystar HD. Tv satellite dish installation Normally you can connect FTA to the Mystar box via an RF antenna connection. Direct satellite tv Unfortunately, the VAST box does not have an RF out.

Is there a way to get the VAST signal into the Mystar, so that I can get the benefits of Mystar on FTA.

I can’t think of a way, but figure a smart person here might have found a way.

I am no authority on satellite and I would love to be corrected.. Best alternative to cable or dish tv Finding a way to mix two encrypted digital services on separate satellites, with separate decoder cards, to appear on the same linear channel list would be an outright nightmare and need a few thousands worth of equipment

Is there a way to get the VAST signal into the Mystar, so that I can get the benefits of Mystar on FTA.

I found this page http://www.digitalready.gov.a u/what-is-the-switch/subscription-tv.aspx that says that you might be able to get the digital FTA signals direct from Austar, but when I asked Austar about it they just said you would need to use a separate VAST box, but they could give you permission to use the same dish.

I would like to see Austar upgrade the Mystar to also receive the VAST channels.

There’s a PVR upgrade for the VAST STB, but I would prefer to do away with VAST box altogether.

If cost is not a limiting factor, it can be done using something like this

You would need two for all of the digital channels and they look expensive 🙁

Or one to feed VAST channels into the mystar box as ‘FTA’ signals

Edit: now that I think about it.. Cable and dish tv alternatives won’t you need one card and one converter for each VAST multiplex?

LOL. Satellite direct tv reviews complaints For a start Austar and VAST use the same sat. Tv satellite online All that is needed is a commercial agreement between VAST and Austar so that the VAST channels are simulcrypted with Austar Irdeto keys along with VAST Irdeto encryption keys at the encoder (in the same way that Foxtel and Austar simulcrypt their channels). Compare dth tv in india Then you program the MyStarHD decoder to scan the VAST transponders and allocate a channel number to each channel stream.

That’s all. Satellite tv box australia You don’t need thousands of dollars of equipment in each home. Satellite dish installation guide pdf Just use the same MyStarHD decoder that is fully capable of showing the VAST channels.

From memory the original MyStar SD decoder will never be able to decode VAST channels because it only has an MPEG-2 video decoder which can’t work with the MPEG-4 video used by VAST.

The reality however is that different companies rarely if ever co-operate with shared technology unless there is a substantial cost advantage in doing so. Bell satellite tv online programming guide Adding VAST to MyStar boxes wouldn’t give any benefit to Austar but would have implementation and managament costs so it won’t happen.

If sanity prevailed both VAST and Austar would allow their cards to be used in 3rd party STB’s which can readily work with at least two cards (one from each provider) so that you can choose your own single box to receive both services.

The blurb says each one can do 8 channels, so two should be enough…

The commercial Irdeto CAM allows 8 channels to be decoded simultaneously per card.

*edit* or perhaps I am misunderstanding – would you need one for 9/go/gem and one for 10/11/1 and so on …

VAST channels aren’t multiplexed in the same way as terrestrial digital broadcasts.

In any case a residential customer can’t get access to the flexible CAM based solutions for VAST as they won’t activate them for residential private customers.

Use two different boxes. Download satellite tv for pc free full version There aren’t any options at present for residential private VAST subscribers to use anything other than the crappy UEC STB that VAST supports.

does the vast box have rca out?? if so you could try one of these

you would have to still change channel from your vast box, but should work of you can tune rf channels on the austar box.

i dont own a vast box, nor do i have austar – so if ive missed something simple please no flames!! 😛

LOL, and after you’ve spent $15k+ you still won’t have all Austar and FTA channels with one box which is what the OP wants!!!!

All the solution you’ve linked to does is transmodulate sat signals into terrestrial FTA broadcast frequencies, but given that Austar programs their boxes to tune only into official terrestrial broadcasts they won’t set up your MyStar to tune into your custom FTA terrestrial multiplexes that have been transmodulated.

The problem with MyStar boxes is that Austar insists on controlling every last stupid facet of them to the point of remotely controlling which FTA channels they are allowed to scan and add to their channel lineup.

Since you are connecting the modulators to your private cabling I would assume that you can program them to transmit on any FTA frequency you like – so just set it up to send the channels where the MystarHD is looking for them.

That’s the thing, the MyStarHD will not be looking for them because Austar programs each and every MyStar to tune into only the terrestrial broadcasts in your area based on registered postcode. Free to air satellite tv channels in africa If you don’t have terrestrial digital broadcasts based on your registered postcode address (which is why you’re using VAST) then it won’t tune into any channels even if you’ve transmodulated the satellite VAST channels correctly.

You could just give them a call and ask them to program it. They don’t program individual STB’s for your custom trans-modulation setup. Tv zimbo satellite frequency Their FTA tuning database is based on postcodes.

Yep, they just changed the settings to the other region which they already have in the database register. Satellite tv installation instructions There isn’t a unique register for every STB that is broadcast over the sat. Satellite tv software freeware download Only a single database is broadcast (which is updated from details sent by the FTA broadcasters for every region). Kworld dvb s satellite pci tv card You’re not going to get them to set up a unique location setting just for your box. Satellite tv pci card It’s not going to happen. Satellite tv to pc crack This is Austar we’re talking about which are one of the laziest companies in the country. Satellite tv aerial installation They’ve had persistent bugs in all their STB’s since day 1 which they can’t be bothered to get fixed, so do you seriously think they’ll entertain your request?

Before you spend many thousands of dollars on a trans-modulation setup I suggest you call them up to see if they’ll program your STB to match the parameters (something you’ll have to email them with first including all PID’s, frequencies and other encoding parameters).

It doesn’t have to be a special configuration. Satellite dish for caravans brisbane It can be any postcode you or they choose – it is your cable so there is no problem with modulating the signal on the same frequencies as, say, Sydney CBD.

It is all academic however because I have no intention of spending thousands on a set up like this 🙂

I doubt it, as an example Austar refuse pointblank to map FTA channels if you live in a designated self help zone, basically its their service and they only do what they choose – and as Davmel points out they are one of the laziest and most un-cooperative companies out there.

Goodluck with convincing them to map a different location to your geographic one based on post code.

In my case I currently have a VAST box for FTA DTV and Mystar HD, we just switch the input to VAST on the rare occasions we want to watch it.

Next month our community is installing a transmitter etc so we can re transmit FTA DTV to the town, and then I will still have to hook the aerial up to the TV and bypass the Mystar HD box because of Austar’s refusal to map and FTA channels on our boxes.
